Is ISEP the Same as IEMA?

Yes. In July 2025, the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) rebranded to the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP). All IEMA qualifications — including the Foundation Certificate (FCSEM) and Certificate (CEM) in Sustainability and Environmental Management — continue under the ISEP name with the same standards, syllabus, and global recognition.

If you are searching for IEMA training, IEMA Foundation Certificate, IEMA CEM, or IEMA courses in Qatar — you are in the right place. GSustain is the ISEP-accredited training centre in Qatar, offering both qualifications in Doha and online.

Why ISEP Qualifications Matter in the GCC

Across Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait, environmental regulations are tightening rapidly. Qatar’s National Vision 2030, Saudi Vision 2030, and UAE Net Zero 2050 all demand qualified environmental professionals. ISEP qualifications are recognised by:

Oil & Gas — QatarEnergy, ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, and their contractors require environmental competency for EIA, EMS, and GHG reporting roles.
Construction & Real Estate — GSAS, Estidama, LEED, and ISO 14001 compliance roles increasingly require ISEP-level qualifications.
Government & Regulation — MoECC (Qatar), NCEMA (UAE), and GACA (Saudi) recognise ISEP credentials for environmental compliance roles.
ESG & Consulting — QSE-listed companies, QFMA-regulated entities, and ESG consultancies value ISEP for sustainability reporting and assurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

ISEP Training — Everything You Need to Know

Is ISEP the same as IEMA?+
Yes. In July 2025, the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) rebranded to the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP). All IEMA qualifications — including the Foundation Certificate (FCSEM) and Certificate (CEM) — continue under the ISEP name with the same standards, syllabus, and global recognition. Existing IEMA members automatically became ISEP members. If you are searching for “IEMA training” or “IEMA courses,” the ISEP qualifications are exactly what you need.
What is the ISEP Foundation Certificate (FCSEM)?+
The ISEP Foundation Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management (FCSEM) is a globally recognised entry-level qualification. It covers environmental legislation, sustainability principles, environmental management systems (ISO 14001), environmental impact assessment, life cycle assessment, and professional practice. The course is 40 hours of instructor-led learning with an open-book MCQ exam (30 questions, 70% pass mark, 98% pass rate). There are no entry requirements. On completion, you gain AISEP (Associate) membership of ISEP.
What is the ISEP Certificate (CEM)?+
The ISEP Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management (CEM) is the advanced practitioner-level qualification. It is a 15-day intensive programme covering environmental management systems, EIA, environmental auditing, compliance, pollution control, resource efficiency, and sustainability leadership. The CEM requires the FCSEM or equivalent experience as a prerequisite. On completion, you gain PISEP (Practitioner) membership of ISEP.
How much does the ISEP Foundation Certificate cost?+
At GSustain in Qatar, the ISEP Foundation Certificate (FCSEM) costs QAR 2,000 (approximately USD 550). This includes tuition, course materials, and ISEP registration. The fee is competitive compared to UK-based providers where the FCSEM typically costs GBP 395–600 plus VAT plus ISEP registration fees.
How much does the ISEP Certificate (CEM) cost?+
At GSustain in Qatar, the ISEP Certificate (CEM) costs QAR 8,000 (approximately USD 2,200). This includes the 15-day intensive programme, course materials, and ISEP registration. UK-based providers typically charge GBP 3,000–5,000 plus VAT.
How hard is the ISEP Foundation Certificate exam?+
The exam is a 30-question multiple-choice test lasting 1 hour. It is open-book, meaning you can refer to your course materials during the exam. The pass mark is 70% (21 out of 30). With a 98% pass rate globally, it is accessible for professionals from all backgrounds. If you do not pass on the first attempt, you can resit the exam.
Can I study the ISEP Foundation Certificate online?+
Yes. GSustain offers both the FCSEM and CEM through instructor-led online delivery as well as in-person in Doha, Qatar. The online format uses live sessions with a qualified trainer — not pre-recorded content. Both delivery methods lead to the same ISEP qualification and membership.
What is the difference between ISEP Foundation Certificate and ISEP Certificate?+
The FCSEM (Foundation) is the entry-level qualification: 40 hours, no prerequisites, covers core concepts, leads to AISEP membership. The CEM (Certificate) is the advanced qualification: 15 days intensive, requires FCSEM or equivalent, covers applied EMS, EIA, auditing, and leadership, leads to PISEP membership. Most professionals start with the FCSEM and progress to the CEM.
Is the ISEP Foundation Certificate recognised in the GCC?+
Yes. ISEP qualifications are recognised globally, including across all GCC countries (Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait). GSustain is the ISEP-accredited training centre in Qatar's Free Zones. The qualification is valued by employers in oil and gas, construction, consulting, and government sectors across the Gulf region.
Where can I take ISEP training in Qatar?+
GSustain (Global Sustainability Solutions and Services QFZ LLC) is the ISEP-accredited training centre in Qatar, offering both the FCSEM and CEM in Doha. Courses are available in-person and online. Monthly batches run throughout the year. Contact learn@gsustain.org or visit our registration page to enrol.
What is AISEP membership?+
AISEP stands for Associate member of ISEP. It is awarded upon successful completion of the ISEP Foundation Certificate (FCSEM). AISEP members can use the post-nominal letters “AISEP” after their name and gain access to ISEP’s global professional network, CPD resources, and career support. The next level is PISEP (Practitioner), achieved through the CEM.
What jobs can I get with an ISEP Foundation Certificate?+
The FCSEM opens doors to roles such as Environmental Officer, Sustainability Coordinator, ESG Analyst, Environmental Compliance Officer, and HSE Advisor. In the GCC, demand is high in oil and gas, construction, real estate, government, and consulting. Progressing to PISEP (via CEM) qualifies you for senior roles such as Environmental Manager, Sustainability Director, and Head of ESG.
What is the difference between ISEP and NEBOSH?+
ISEP (formerly IEMA) focuses on environmental management and sustainability, while NEBOSH focuses on occupational health and safety. The ISEP Foundation Certificate covers environmental legislation, EMS, EIA, LCA, and sustainability. The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate covers environmental management from a health and safety perspective. Both are globally recognised. For careers specifically in environmental management, ESG, or sustainability, ISEP is the more directly relevant qualification. Many professionals hold both.
Are courses delivered in Arabic?+
GSustain’s ISEP courses are delivered in English, which is the language of the ISEP qualification and exam. However, our trainers are fluent in Arabic and provide bilingual support, explanation of technical terms in Arabic, and supplementary materials where needed. The exam must be taken in English as set by ISEP globally.
Is the ISEP Foundation Certificate valid for life?+
Yes. The ISEP Foundation Certificate does not expire. Once achieved, the qualification is yours permanently. However, ISEP membership (AISEP/PISEP) requires annual renewal and continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain active status.
